You may or may not have noticed that we have no gutters on this house - anywhere. The house was designed with an interior downspout. Originally, the water from the roof was to be channeled underground and then into a "bio-retention" planter at southwest end of our property (right corner of the concrete wall). This bio-retention planter is being required by the City of Seattle. At the suggestion of our contractor, we have decided to channel this water above-ground alongside the steps that will lead from the gate off of the driveway up to our front door terrace. When the water reaches the interior wall, it will flow through the slit and drop into the "bio-retention" planter. If all goes according to plan, we will have a little stream and waterfall when it rains! We will fill the "bio-retention" planter with plants to absorb as much water as possible.
